Instagram has become one of the most interactive platforms, and polls are a fantastic feature to boost engagement on your stories. Whether you’re a brand, influencer, or just a regular user, Instagram polls let you connect with your audience in a meaningful way. In this article, we’ll cover everything you need to know about Instagram polls, why they’re beneficial, how they differ from quizzes, and the step-by-step process to create your own polls. By the end, you’ll have all the tools to make your stories more interactive and engaging!
What Are Instagram Polls?
Instagram polls are a feature within Stories that allows you to ask your audience a question with two or more answer options on Instagram. Polls typically appear as interactive stickers that users can tap to vote.
When someone views your story, they can participate in the poll by selecting one of the available answers. You can see the results in real time, including how many people voted for each option. Polls are simple yet effective in starting conversations, gathering opinions, or simply entertaining your audience.
Why Use Instagram Polls?
Instagram polls go beyond just asking questions—they create opportunities for meaningful interaction and growth. Here’s why you should use them:
Boost Engagement
Polls encourage users to interact with your story by voting. This can increase your story views and engagement rate.
Understand Your Audience
Whether you’re a business testing product ideas or an influencer understanding preferences, polls provide quick and insightful feedback.
Build a Connection
Polls feel personal. When followers see you value their input, it strengthens their connection to your content.
Increase Story Retention
Interactive elements like polls keep viewers engaged for longer, helping your story stay relevant on Instagram’s algorithm.
Promote New Content
Polls are a creative way to introduce new products, tease content, or drive traffic to your profile or website.
For example, brands often use polls to gauge excitement for a new launch or determine preferences between two products. It’s a win-win for both engagement and insights.

What’s the Difference Between an Instagram Poll and a Quiz?
Though polls and quizzes may look similar at first glance, they serve different purposes and offer unique functionalities:
Instagram Polls
- Simple questions with two customizable answer options.
- Participants can vote on their preferences.
- You can see who voted for what option.
Use Case: Polls are perfect for binary questions, like “Do you prefer coffee or tea?” or “Should we post more behind-the-scenes content?”
Instagram Quizzes
- Multiple-choice questions with one correct answer.
- Users can select an option, but only one answer is marked as right.
- Participants receive immediate feedback if their choice is correct.
Use Case: Quizzes are best for testing knowledge or running trivia games, such as “What year was Instagram launched?” with predefined correct answers.

Is there a way to create/post a poll to Instagram through Facebook Creator Studio. I work for a real estate agent and post to her IG and FB accounts using Creator. I see where I can create a poll on FB with Creator, but not for IG.
