You’re not downloading the video itself from dailymotion, the source in the codec is .m4u8, which is basically a shortcut to a playlist of the video’s location. Opening the .m4u8 file with VLC will open the video, but it’s still accessing dailymotion to actually get to the video source.
If you want to actually download the video, use VLC to get the .m4u8 file, then open that file in a plaintext editor like notepad++, find and copy the .mp4 link, and paste that into your browser. Since your browser is now pulling the video file directly from dailymotion, you can save it to your device.
