Spotify is an audio streaming platform that offers many things to its users. People choose it for its features and good audio quality. From music albums to podcasts, Spotify offers a wide range of services. It saves us from searching for music from different platforms or searching manually. It is a very convenient program. Let’s take a look at how to use Spotify.
It is possible to do many things on Spotify. You can discover music by its suggestions or discover yourself by browsing through the genres. Spotify might look a bit complicated. Yet, it is very easy to get used to it. Just like a car with many options.
It also has a web player that you can connect to from the internet. If you don’t have access to the app, you might try it as well.
Now let’s take a look at Spotify’s features and how to use them.
Features of Spotify
Spotify is not just about listening to music and closing the application. Among discovering songs and podcasts, there are many things you can do, such as making friends, following artists, and making your own playlists. We will touch upon all of these features.
Discovering Music
One of the best features of Spotify is discovering music. It was the first feature when Spotify was marketed for the first time. Yet, it is not just suggestions. The application brings you artists, albums, and playlists according to your taste. If you are an artist, buy Spotify followers to boost your account!
Like many other music platforms, and YouTube, which is its major rival, Spotify has a Search Bar where you can search for songs, artists, albums, podcasts, etc. You can find the Search Bar on the very first page when you open the Spotify app. It is called the ‘Home’ page. You can search for songs, playlists, radio stations, and podcasts. Yet, what the Home page offers?
Home Page
On the Home page, you can find:
- You recently played albums,
- Your heavy rotation (things you listen to continuously)
- Mixes that are made for you,
- Your playlists,
- Recommended playlists for today,
- Playlists based on your recent listening,
- Songs that are more like your top songs of the year,
- Suggested artists,
- 100% hits,
- Your background music.
As you can guess from these features, Spotify learns your taste and brings out alternatives according to it. Then offers you daily mixes.
One of the most interesting things that Spotify made was bringing out your music summary at the end of the year. They even made it available for sharing and as a result almost every Spotify user has shared their summary and showed what they were listening throughout the year.
Browse Page
Your discovery of music is not only limited to the Home page although it offers more than expected. You can discover more from the Browse page.
The Browse page is heaven for people who are in the world of music. You can find:
- Genres & Moods
- Podcasts
- Charts
- New Releases
- Playlists Made For You
- Concerts
Yes, you can find concerts as well. When you open the Browse page and click on ‘Concerts,’ then you will find concerts that will happen in your city.
Radio
When you are not sure what to listen to, you can use the Radio page to listen to music instantly. It is not like an actual radio station that is being broadcasted through a station or an Internet radio, however, it is similar to that.
You can find radio playlists that are based on artists or songs. You just pick your style and Spotify will take it from there. The difference between a suggested playlist and the radio is that radio playlists never end. It will go on as long as you listen.
When you are listening to the radio, you have the ability to like or dislike the songs you are listening to. When you do so, the next songs will change according to your likes and dislikes.
Keep in mind that Artist based radio stations are not continuous when you first start to play them. However, you can change this adjustment from the Settings. To do that, follow these steps:
- Click on the arrow next to your profile picture,
- At the very bottom of the Settings list, you will find the ‘Autoplay’ section.
- Click on the switch next to the ‘Autoplay similar songs when your music ends’ phrase.
Creating Playlists
Another magnificent feature of the app is that you can create your own Spotify playlists. Of course, you can do this on YouTube, too, but here it is much easier. You can find the Playlists section under Your Library.
Here, you can create playlists as you wish. When you click on ‘New Playlist,’ Spotify will ask you to give it a name and a description for your new playlist. You can skip the description if you like however you have to give it a name because Spotify offers song suggestions for your new playlist.
This feature really comes handy especially if you know what songs to put in your playlist. For example, you write ’80s Pop’ as your playlist’s name and Spotify brings all of the popular songs throughout the 80s.
You can add as many songs as you want to a playlist by clicking on the ‘Add to playlist’ button. When you add songs, you will see a date next to each song. It is the date when you put that song on your list.
Spotify also prevents you from adding duplicating songs to a playlist by warning you that the song is duplicated. You can, however, add the song by clicking the ‘Add Anway’ button when it warns you. Or you can skip it by clicking on the ‘Skip Duplicate’ button.
