You can tag Your Friends in your Facebook photos, videos, status notifications, location sharing, or other sharing. With Facebook’s tagging feature, you can show who’s in an event or photo. Do you know how to tag someone on Facebook? Continue reading if you don’t know. We’ll tell you how to tag someone in both the web and mobile applications.
How Does Tag Function Work?
Tagging is a special type of link. When you tag someone, you create a link in the timeline on the user profile page. The post you tagged can also be added to the person’s timeline. For example, you can tag a status update to tell who you’re doing the photo or to tell who you’re doing something with to show who’s in a photo. If you tag a friend on Facebook in your status update, anyone who sees the update can click on your friend’s name to go to the timeline. You can also show your status update on your friend’s timeline. You can also tag people who aren’t your friends. Facebook allows it.
How to Tag on Mobile?
- Open the Facebook mobile app
- Sign in to your Facebook account
- Click on “status” in the Facebook application
- In the “Write Post” window, type the status you want to share and click on the “tag” icon at the bottom
- In the drop-down menu, select the person or people you want to tag in your status from the friends’ list. Then click the “Done” button at the top right
- You can share your friends’ or friends’ status by clicking the “share” button at the screen’s top right.
Tag on Photo
Another practical method is to tag the person you want to tag in the status share by typing them after the@ sign. For example, I’m at the cinema with @Sarah.
To tag yourself or a friend in a photo:
- To enlarge the photo, click on it.
- Click on the tag icon.
- Click on the person in the photo and start typing his name.
- When the entire name of the person you want to tag appears, select that name.
- Click Finish tagging.
I Cannot Tag Friends. What Is the Solution?
If you can’t tag someone you want to tag on Facebook, it’s due to that person’s privacy settings. Because some users do not like this kind of activity and do not want to be in pictures or videos. That’s why the privacy settings may have chosen, “No one can tag me.” If he/she has a choice, you can’t tag! There is no solution to this because privacy is very important to every user. If he-she doesn’t want it, there’s no point in insisting. Leave them alone and enjoy Facebook!
When you tag someone on Facebook in a photo, the Friends of that person can see it, like it, or comment on it. If you tag a photo that wasn’t uploaded by a friend, the person who uploaded the photo needs to approve the tag.

I can’t tag my friends in comments at all, and the “@” thing won’t work either. This happens no matter who I try to tag in a comment.
Same issue here too!!
Yep same with me. Something needs to be done!
FB is not allowing me to tag friends in a video post??
FB changed their format and I am unable to tag myself in my own videos. As a professional musician, being able to tag my videos is pretty necessary. I’ve reached out to FB and have yet to receive a reply.
Hello. I have a personal and business page and trying to tag people by typing in name. It does not pull up my contacts. I tried typing @ before the name but still nothing. I have looked at all obvios settings and tried getting off mobile and on to a desk top. Wondering if you could help me with next steps. Thanks so much
I suddenly can’t tag or pull up a persons profile as a friend but only from going to the list of everyone with their same name. We are still listed as “friends”. I also can’t see them on messenger either. They can see my things as they “like” things. Seems odd. Thanks
It was actually really easy to tag someone on Facebook. You just have to hover over the photo to see the tag icon.
The ‘Tag people’ function worked perfectly until two days ago. Suddenly, when I click on the icon, I’m taken to the Tag People page, but nothing happens when I start to type in a name. (Before – a list of all my friends appeared.) How can I fix this? Thanks!
Have you tried to tag more than one person? Can you please explain it a bit further?
Exact same thing here as of last week. Thought it was on my side but this thread clears that up. I only can tag a few friends but that’s it.
No, there is something bizarre about facebook. I have a business account and a personal, and you can’t tag the people you know on the business acct, nor can people tag people they recognize (or themselves) in the photos. Meanwhile, no one can access my personal pages photos. Never used to have these problems and all the settings are on public.
Same problem here. Can only tag products in photos from a Facebook Business Page, but not people. 🙁
Ive reached out to Facebook app (still waiting on a response)
Why can’t I tag people I’m following or pages I’m following on my newsfeed this is happening every time I post anything on my feed, this has to be fixed please btw it’s been like this since 26th December 2021 I’ve reported it since nothing is being dealt with I am furious 😠 This is my problem I tag people & pages im following & nothing it normally highlights blue but isn’t it?? U can see in the photos the pages & friends/followers should be highlighted Blue, and the “@” thing won’t work either. This happens no matter who I try to tag in a comment.
